When your parent has memory loss, it can often be difficult to decide, as an adult child, what to do. Caregivers must decide whether they will care for their parent in their own home or in a facility, and even when the parent moves into a full-time care facility, the caregiver still has much on their plate.
In today’s expert interview, we speak with Jennifer Fink from the Fading Memories – Alzheimers Caregiver Support podcast. Jennifer shares here experience with both of her parents, starting with the first signs of memory loss that she noticed in her mother to helping one parent care for the other to finally progressing to the need to transition her mom into full-time memory care.
Jennifer gives us some great insight into the emotional aspects of caregiving and how to maintain a relationship with someone who many not remember who you are. We also cover how to spot the early warning signs of Alzheimer’s and determine if your loved one is truly suffering from memory loss.
Jennifer leaves us with some great tips about respite care and self care for caregivers and how to survive the mental and physical toll that havinga parent with memory loss can take on you.
