2019 NFID Annual Influenza/Pneumococcal Disease News Conference

US Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex M. Azar II joined leading medical/public health experts at the 2019 NFID Influenza/Pneumococcal News Conference, to discuss the importance of preventing influenza and pneumococcal disease and encourage all individuals age 6 months and older to get vaccinated against influenza annually.

Secretary Azar was joined by an expert panel, moderated by NFID Medical Director William Schaffner, MD. Panelists included NFID President-Elect Patricia N. Whitley-Williams, MD (Professor of Pediatrics and Division Chief, Allergy, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School) and William B. Borden, MD (Associate Professor of Medicine and Health Policy, George Washington University, and Chief Quality and Population Health Officer, GW Medical Faculty Associates).

NFID #FightFlu Ambassador Mark May, Former Washington Redskins Player and 1980 Outland Trophy Winner also led by example and received his flu vaccine at the news conference.
